How often dop we hear the exhortation, Live today as if it were your last And love like you never knew liberation. That was why when we met, I knew the die was cast. Since then I have lived in the time of gratitude For the early morning sunrise And the paintings of late afternoon sunset, Even though my house is not on the hill, For the summer rains in which I stand still To savor the wetness from head to toe. You often chastise me for being operatic Little do you know I am just being ecstatic For finally knowing the meaning of life and death. Now on any given day I'm ready for the everlasting rest.
